The Office for Financial Policy's mission is to help financial managers fulfill current and emerging financial management and compliance responsibilities. Your department may have a need for an entirely new policy, or you may need to update an existing policy—either way, the OFP can help.
Once a department has identified the need for a new or updated policy, that department (known as the Business Owner in the policy process) should contact the OFP for assistance.
For a detailed description of the new policy development process at Harvard, the University now has a helpful informational document. It's called "Formulation, Issuance and Maintenance of University Policies," and it should answer most of your questions about developing financial policies at Harvard. Click here for the "Formulation" document, and here for the policy-process flow chart. This process will help ensure that the new policy can be applied across the University, that it complies with federal regulations, and that it supports Harvard's mission.

If you still have questions about the process, or want to talk about developing a new policy or updating an existing policy, please contact the Office for Financial Policy, at fad_finpolicy@harvard.edu.
